HOW MOBILITY AIDS CAN HELP OLDER PEOPLE LIVE INDEPENDENTLY FOR LONGER

How Mobility Aids Can Help Older People Live Independently for Longer

As we get older and retire, most of us are ready for a peaceful life at home. The ability to move freely around the house, however, can wane as our bodies age and we lose agility and balance. Fortunately, mobility aids are a useful and affordable way for seniors to maintain their independence.

We carry aids for people of all ages and levels of ability. Our selection of mobility aids includes common tools, such as wheelchairs and walkers, as well as more specific pieces of equipment, like bath and stair lifts. In essence, we carry aids that seniors can use to help them move around and avoid falls, to keep up their independence for as long as possible.

Mobility Around the House

Sometimes seniors can require help with the basics, like moving between rooms and getting in and out of bed. These actions may seem simple, but they can be challenging for people without enough muscle strength or flexibility.

An aid like a scooter or wheelchair allows seniors to go from room to room without placing too much stress on joints and bones. For those who can go short distances unassisted, these tools can extend the areas people can travel, making trips to the store or out in the garden much easier. When combined with stair lifts, seniors can enjoy full access to all rooms in their home.

Our selections of wheelchairs, scooters, and lifts were all chosen for their practicality and comfort. They’re perfect for seniors who want reliable, easy-to-use equipment that will last for years to come.

Preventing Accidents

The National Council on Aging lists accidental falls as one of the most common causes of injury and hospitalization of people over the age of 65. Falls can happen any number of ways, from tripping over a rug to slipping in the bathroom. These falls can be serious – and sometimes even deadly.

As our bodies age, we lose our ability to bounce back from injuries, particularly fractures and head injuries. Often times, the damage after an accident can lead to permanent incapacitation. This means that mobility aids are important in preventing accidents that take away independence.

Here at Jameson Medical we carry safety aids like bath transfer benches, grab bars, bed rails, and more. These are made specifically for the purpose of preventing falls and to assist those with reduced mobility to move around by themselves. Even if a person only has limited mobility in one area of their body, taking precaution and using safety items can help them prevent injury and keep their independence both now and in the future.

Independence at Any Age

We are delighted to provide the equipment seniors need to move freely about their homes and spend their retirement peacefully.

Many seniors and their families are reluctant to use mobility aids, as if the use of an aid sacrifices some independence in and of itself. But we don’t consider mobility aids to be confining – in fact, just the opposite! Many who use mobility tools – from wheelchairs to stair lifts to adjustable beds – find them to be incredibly liberating because they allow for movement that isn’t possible without assistance.

We hope that you and your family will place your trust in Jameson Medical for your mobility aid needs. If you have any questions or need any further information on our products, please contact us! We’d be delighted to help.
