Features of the Summit Stairlift
  Chair Lift

Chassis & Drive Train
1. No oil / vent plug in gear – the gearbox is sealed and is filled with grease instead of traditional gear oil. This means no chance of leaking or spillage. The gear is one of the largest in the stairway lift market today. The aluminum casting used in its design allows for lighter weight to go with its maximum performance.

2. Drive system – a belt is used between the motor and gear instead of a direct connection as manufacturers were unable to guarantee the elimination of key noise between a coupled drive system. It also simplifies serviceability.

3. Motor – Through the design of a dual capacitor system, the instant reversing motor (1/3 hp, 110vac) uses only 3 wires and runs at 6 amps at full load. This allows installation in the home without need for a dedicated outlet.

4. Aircraft cable – using 3/16” dia. Cable instead of traditional 1/8” dia. Cable allows for a breaking strength of 4200 lbs. vs. 2000 lbs. The cable wraps on an aluminum cast drum, grooved for each wrap. This eliminates noise and problems caused by stack winding issues. The cable system is direct drive – meaning there are no pulleys and the cable does not move.

Customer Features
1. Seat – the seat is wide for larger passengers and has the following features:

Optional colors – 3 in vinyl and 3 in leather

A large, easy to use paddle switch on the armrest

A 3-position adjustable height back rest for optimum comfort

180 degree swivel as standard

2. Unit – the chassis has several unique features as well:
A magazine rack that can be used for books, newspapers, etc.

A 2 position adjustable height footrest for persons of varying height and disabilities

Eight rollers instead of the traditional four. This gives a more consistent ride with less movement. It also cuts in half the load on each roller eliminating flat spots and premature roller wear

3. Track – features of the aluminum extruded track include:

A completely smooth bottom. This allows the lift to sit firmly on the stair noses and reduces permanent ridges or marks left once the lift is removed.

Track splices located immediately next to the roller channels to provide for an optimum ride at each splice – not on the bottom of the track.

Conduit channels in the track to reduce installation time and improve the look of the overall installation. This eliminates holes in the wall / stairs.

Installation & Service
1. Weight – the heaviest component of the lift is 80lbs, allowing for a true one-man installation.

2. Installation – since the track is cut prior to going out to the home, the installation can be accomplished easily in 3 hours. (Anyone telling you it takes less time is deceiving you and should not be trusted). This is done by providing several small, yet important features in the design:

Track brackets on the wall side only

A trough extruded in the track for use as a conduit for the call control wires

Footswitch call controls (can be used as a wall mount if desired). These are mounted to the floor at each end of the track

No stripping or connecting of individual wires. Internal wires – including the power cord – are connected via modular plugs

By placing the hardware needed in the proper location prior to shipping, hardware packages are eliminated.

3. Flexibility – the unit can be cut down in length, track can be swapped between units, or it can be reversed in the field without cutting any wires or using any additional components.

4. Serviceability – the electrical components are easy to reach for testing when service is needed. Harnesses can be unplugged to perform voltage checks. The limit switches are larger and more durable than other lifts to assure long life.

5. Spare parts – a large number of the components are off the shelf items available at OEM stores around the country. This allows for immediate access to parts needed if service is required.

*Summit Lifts designs their lifts to meet the stringent requirements of ASME A17.1, and ASME A18.1 when installed properly.  Those wishing to acquire these products need to check with local authorities to assure local code compliance, installation requirements, and to determine if permits are required.

6 Reasons To Choose a Summit Stairlift
  1. Peace of Mind
The Summit stairway lift was designed by a four-man team to make sure nothing was missed.

Footrest safety sensors stop the lift in either direction should it strike anything on the stairs. The seat is equipped with a seat belt and a safety switch that prevents the unit from running unless the seat is in its proper position. The aircraft cable has mechanical and electrical safeties to stop the lift in place and shut down the power if the cable is not at its proper tension. Limit switches shut the unit off in the same place at the top and bottom of the stairs automatically. This is our way of offering you and your family members peace of mind regarding your safety.

2. Comfort
The Summit stairway lift has a wide, thick, padded seat available in vinyl or rich, leather upholstery that folds up when not in use. The large rocker switch on the arm of your choice and a 180-degree swivel seat make using the lift simple.

The fold-up footrest adjusts to two different levels to suit your needs, and the backrest has three different positions to make sure you are as comfortable as when you are sitting in your favorite chair. Every facet of the lift was designed to enable you to relax and enjoy using your Summit stairway lift.

3. Reliability
Each part of the Summit stairway lift has been designed to make sure you can depend on your lift when you need it most.

Little things have been added such as a power indicator light on the track assuring you that unit is ready to use. The aircraft cable in the drive system is rated 4,200 lbs. breaking strength. The motor and gear have been tested in excess of 30,000 cycles – 16 years of use – and neither showed excessive wear.  The design is similar to an elevator found in high rise buildings.

  4. Flexibility
The Summit stairway lift can be placed on either side of a staircase, and the unit control can be placed in either arm.

By adding or cutting the track, you can modify the length of the unit should you ever need to relocate. Standard call controls are mounted on the floor at each end of the staircase and can be foot operated or can be placed on the wall and operated by hand. Either location allows you to call the lift to you regardless of where the lift is on the track. This flexibility enhances the resale of the lift – and yes, the warranty is transferable should you decide to resell your lift!
5. Maintenance
As strange as this may sound for a mechanical device, there minimal maintenance for the Summit stairway lift.
Chair Lift for Stairs
Unlike most lifts that have gearboxes with vent plugs, the gearbox on the Summit Lift is completely sealed, preventing the possibility of oil leaking onto your carpet. Virtually all other lifts also use gear racks and pinion gears (rack and pinion) to drive the lift. These must be lubricated with dust-collecting grease to prevent damage from occurring.

6. Security
Why use eight rollers when four will work? Why make the parts ourselves when purchasing them overseas is cheaper? Why use an aircraft cable strong enough to tow a car?

Disabled Chair Lift

Why test each lift before it is shipped? Why use UL and CSA listed components on all electrical components? Why hand-assemble each piece? Why used standard off-the-shelf parts allowing you to service the lift yourself once the warranty is up?

Because Summit Lifts refuses to have the quality of their lift surpassed by anyone.

That’s why.
